This painting was inspired by an old photograph found online showing a proud Tasmanian hunter posing beside a slain thylacine, or Tasmanian tiger. This animal is now extinct. It was a marsupial, closely related to the kangaroo, bust resembling a wolf. It was referred to as the Tasmanian tiger because the later half of the body was striped
The title quotes The Bonzo Dg Doo Dah Band's song «Hunting tigers». The painting is shadow mounted and the frame is seen as an extension of the whole piece.
