An original oil painting on linen canvas. English virus tulips are tulips grown by the English tulip society members who plant a healthy mother tulip, then add a virus to it. Growing, the tulip breaks into beautiful colours. The English tulip society headed by the Duke of Kent of England holds every year a competition between its members for the best virus tulips. It is amazing to see a collection of these tulips, one more beautiful than the other. The first infected tulips were brought to Holland as a gift from Sultan Suleiman of the Turkish Empire (16th century) and they created a tulpomania- houses were offered for one tulip bulb in that period.
