Once you start doing Plein Aire Painting - it becomes very addictive. Its a challenge to get as much information done in a two hour window. Planning out the composition, the shapes along with when to put in the light and the shadow. Color plays an important roll here. It can make or break the painting. You need to know when bright intense color is needed and where subtle muted tones need to be. One of the things that I liked about the barn was the challenge of painting a stone barn and not losing the feel of stone. The other was that it was field quartz and had so many different colors in the stone itself.
