Bruce Wayne's childhood ended the night his parents were brutally murdered before his eyes in Gotham City's notorious Crime Alley. The young orphan made a solemn oath to take the law into his own hands, as by avenging their deaths. His obsession was to forge his mind and body into a living weapon. He would become a master of virtually every known fighting discipline, as well as a cunning detective and a relentless adversary of crime. As a vigilante, in order to stop the evil that started with the death of his parents, he must sometimes break the law himself. He realizes that these skills alone would not be enough. «Criminals are a superstitious cowardly lot», Wayne remarks, «so my disguise must be able to strike terror into their hearts. I must be a creature of the night, black, terrible… » As if responding to his desires, a bat suddenly flies through the window, inspiring Bruce to craft the Batman persona.
