I am interested in explorations of representation in painting and am always inspired by great painters like Roger Hilton and Willem de Kooning. Translating the figure into shape, colour and movement to establish a presence in the work that is alive without resorting to the literal representation of the figure. The figure in this piece does not have a specific identity, though it is female and I hope the viewer will get a sense of a figure in action combined with imagination. Thin layers of oil paint have been applied in an expressive style with soft edges and cross hatching. The colours are greys to black and the body of the figure in a soft yellow. The painting is not framed and does not come with hanging hardware.
