Copying old masters is a useful practice as reverse engineering techniques helps in understanding material behavior and effects it creates. This knowledge then can be applied in completely new context. And the choice? Well, I love Rembrandt, his looseness, the ability of glazes to emphasize the texture of thick impastos. I made it while in art school.
